For Contractors

Third-party testing. We hand the work back to you.

Every trade sees a house through its own work. That’s how it should be. But some problems live between trades, and some customers need an answer that doesn’t come from anyone selling the fix.

We test the house, show what’s causing the problem, and hand the work back to you. We don’t install anything, we don’t bid work, and we don’t take referral fees.

How it works

Before you estimate, or when you’re stuck.

  • A prospect, before you estimate

You’ve got a customer with a comfort, humidity or energy problem, and you want to know what’s causing it before you price the job. Send them to us. We test the house and give them prioritized recommendations. Add a written scope and you get a line-by-line job to price, already diagnosed.

  • A customer you’re stuck on

The callback that won’t close. The job that was done right and the customer still isn’t happy. The problem everyone points at someone else for. Neutral test results settle it. Sometimes they point at the work. Often they point somewhere else entirely. Either way, the job stops going in circles.

Sending a customer

Three steps. No paperwork.

  1. 1

Tell them to call us, and to mention you

Or call us yourself with their name and number. Either way works.

  2. 2

We talk with them, quote it, and test the house

The homeowner books and pays us directly, unless our visit is part of your proposal.

  3. 3

    You get the findings

With the homeowner’s OK, we send you the test results, photos and recommendations at the same time we send them to the homeowner.

Something you can work from.

What you get back

  • Test results — blower door, duct leakage, and HVAC testing where it applies
  • Photos and thermal images of what we found
  • Prioritized recommendations, in the order we’d do them
  • A written, line-by-line scope of work, if the homeowner adds one

Where we stand

Nothing to take from you.

We’re not a general contractor. We don’t install anything, we don’t sell products, and we don’t bid work. We don’t pay referral fees and we don’t accept them, in either direction.

That’s the only reason the arrangement works. The homeowner trusts the results because we have nothing to sell them. You can send us a customer because we’re not going to do the job.

After the work

Put a test-out in your proposal.

Add a third-party test-out to your bid and let the results back up your work. We come back after you finish and test the house the same way we did before — blower door, thermal imaging and smoke for envelope work, a check of the setup and a system run for heating and cooling changes.

With the homeowner’s OK, you get the results at the same time they do. If something was missed, you know while it’s still a small fix.

Questions

What contractors ask us

Will you send my customer to someone else?

Not in your trade. If an insulation company sends us a customer, we don’t give that customer any other insulation contractors. Same for HVAC, or any trade. If the house needs work outside what you do, we’ll suggest a few people for that part only.

The homeowner owns their report and decides who does the work. But we won’t be the one pointing them to your competition.

Is the report going to make me look bad?

The report says what the tests show. Sometimes that points at the work. Often it points somewhere else — the ductwork, the attic, the way the house was built — and it clears you. Either way, you’ll see what we found, and the homeowner gets an answer that isn’t anyone’s opinion.

Who pays?

Usually the homeowner. Either they pay us directly, or our visit is part of your proposal and you pay us. We quote it before anything is booked.

Do you pay for referrals?

No. We don’t pay referral fees and we don’t take them.

How do contractors end up on your list?

Homeowners who find us on their own get a short list of contractors in each trade — HVAC, insulation, and specialists like mold inspectors and duct cleaners. The people on it are contractors whose work we’ve tested afterward and seen hold up, and who come back and fix it when a test finds something.

Do I need my own testing equipment?

No. Testing is what we bring. If you do have your own, even better — our test-out is a second, independent check.
